Living the New Paradigm (1): Holding the Space

Written by Gillian Maxwell

What turbulence we are living through, as we get more familiar with the new paradigm!  I was reflecting recently on the turmoil I am experiencing, and I see in friends, our community, and of course played out at the global level in disturbing and tragic ways.

I asked, in the face of all this suffering, where did the new paradigm go?  The answer I got is that it is always here, and as we move into it, it will appear to come and go, depending on our relationship with it.  I am talking about energy.  Our entire world is energy that is held in place by us believing it is so.  “According to quantum mechanics, what we can observe about the world is only a tiny subset of what actually exists.” * (reference below).  You see what you expect to see, and for something new to happen, you must imagine what it looks like first.  Painting the picture in your mind is the first step to making it happen.  Eventually it manifests into a reality that you can experience with all your senses.

"Fear not the strangeness you feel. The future must enter you

long before it happens. Just wait for the birth, for the hour of new clarity."

- Rainer Maria Rilke

Until the moment of manifesting, you are in a holding pattern.  You actually hold the space for it to emerge.  Sound a little abstract to you?  Actually you do it all the time. For instance, planning a party requires you getting clear about the details so that you can invite people, they know what to expect and will show up. Or when starting a new business, it doesn’t happen overnight.  You see the endgame, and break down how to get there into manageable pieces, one step at a time…    Without the vision you will never get there, without the commitment, it won’t manifest.  Holding the space allows your vision to manifest.  Distractions will occur to take you away from your intention, and difficulties will arise to throw you off track.  It is called life.

When you put your attention elsewhere, the vision gets a little blurry, or even might appear to have disappeared.  It has not gone anywhere though, it is you who is simply somewhere else!

Distractions, calamities, unexpected events will show up and feel like setbacks.  You may feel disillusioned, discontented, or just deflated.  These are actually opportunities for growth – yours!  Stay present to what is going on and notice your reactions.  Get curious about your thought process and belief systems.  Be the change!!

I just watched Edward Snowden’s recent TED talk in Vancouver.  Fascinating interview. http://www.ted.com/talks/edward_snowden_here_s_how_we_take_back_the_internet When asked about changing the Internet, he says “How far we can go is only limited by what we are willing to put into it”.

So my friends, the new paradigm has not disappeared, it is always waiting for you to nurture the space for it to flourish in, one that you can step into.

By writing this to you, I hold the space for who you are in the world.  When you need assistance, please do not hesitate to call and make an appointment to come and see me.
